Perry Mason was the original TV attorney that ruled the courtroom. His show premiered in 1957, then later in 1985, the producer Dean Hargrove brought Perry Mason back for TV movies.
It was the same Dean Hargrove who created the character of Ben Matlock from the very Perry Mason-esque 1986 TV series Matlock. Starring Andy Griffith, Matlock boasted just as much cred as a criminal defense attorney as Perry Mason, but with just a little more humor than Raymond Burr brought to his role.
