Attack on Pearl Harbor

A culmination of diplomatic tensions came to a head during the early morning hours of December 7, 1941. Six Japanese aircraft carriers launched more than 300 fighter planes and bombers for a surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor. Two hours and 20 minutes after the attack began close to 2,500 Americans were dead.
