The first passenger steam locomotive operated in northeast England and made its maiden voyage on September 28, 1825. Five years later the first steam locomotive passenger train started in the U.S. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad carried passengers and goods as far north as New York City and as far west as Chicago.
