First U.S. Postal Service Mail Truck

U.S. mail delivery began by foot and progressed to horse and buggy and train. At the top of the 20th century the post office outsourced delivery with drivers using cars supplied through a contract with auto manufacturers. A drivers strike in 1913 prompted the post office to create a motor vehicle service with its own trucks and drivers on October 19, 1914.
