Black Sunday

Drought-plagued farmers in the Plains states were overwhelmed when a massive dust storm hit on Sunday, April 14, 1935. Dry weather and poor soil conservation in the Great Plains fueled this overwhelming dirt storm. Daylight turned into night in Oklahoma and Texas. The devastation of Black Sunday forced the Federal government to step in and aid farmers living in the aptly named Dust Bowl.
