Bill Remembers: The First Assassination Attempt On President Ford

Bill Kurtis recalls when Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford. On September 5, 1975, Fromme’s 45-caliber pistol failed to go off as she took aim at the president in Sacramento. It was the first of two assassination attempts on Ford’s life, both in California.
