Operation Vengeance
Before 9/11 the worst attack on U.S. soil occurred at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The military mastermind behind the attack was Japan’s commander–in-chief Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. The U.S. was committed to exacting revenge on the man who had taken so many lives in the surprise attack. It took two years for U.S. intelligence to learn Admiral Yamamoto’s whereabouts. But, it took President Franklin D. Roosevelt no time then to order the Navy to “get Yamamoto.” On April 18, 1943, U.S. fighter pilots shot down Yamamoto’s plane killing him.
