Look, there's gonna be spoilers here for the movie Joker. The movie came out on October 4, 2019, but if you haven't had a chance to see it yet and don't want to know anything before you do, then stop reading here.

Joker has already broken records for being the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time and is the subject of hot debate in the film community. The director, Todd Phillips, has been deliberately quiet about some details of the movie that are open for interpretation. However, Phillips was recently kind enough to confirm one detail — an easter egg that references the 1966 show Batman.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted — and again, spoilers — the tribute during the scene when Arthur Fleck goes to visit Wayne Manor. He sees a young Bruce Wayne playing in a treehouse. Bruce comes sliding down a pole to meet him.

Phillips recently confirmed that the pole was an homage to the "Batpole" that Adam West's Batman would use upon getting a call from Commissioner Gordon. Batman and Robin would slide down the pole to the secret entrance of the Batcave, and the adventure would begin.

Of course, the version that young Bruce is using in Joker is much less advanced than the one that Adam West and Burt Ward use — it doesn't have the instant costume function or the ability to bring the duo back up with the flip of a button.
