In the episode "Anschluss 77," Wonder Woman takes flight, hanging on the bottom of a helicopter. More importantly, it was star Lynda Carter hanging from the bottom of the chopper. The network was not thrilled to have its star dangling 50 feet in the air from the belly of a flying machine. This was just the second episode of the second season — and the series' second episode overall with CBS — after the show jumped from ABC in its offseason. It was a rare instance of Carter performing her own stunts. Typically, that duty fell to stunt double Jeannie Epper.
Epper is a legend among stunt workers. In 2009, she was named one of the 100 most important women in television history on the Taurus World Stunt Awards website. She was a pioneer. In the 1970s, it was not uncommon for men to sport a wig and perform stunts in place of female stars. Epper would go on to double Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone and Linda Evans on Dynasty, to name two credits in her lengthy filmography.
A vintage photograph of Epper and Carter made its way to the front page of Reddit, part of the popular Old School Cool thread. The pictures are indeed too cool to not share.
Epper showed her strength carrying Carter.
Here is Carter hanging from that helicopter in "Anschluss 77."
Finally, check out this charming video in which Epper shares an anecdote about Carter sticking up for her son. Epper's boy told his classmates that his mom was Wonder Woman. The other kids did not believe him. Carter proved she was a wonderful woman in more ways than one with her heart.
