Telegraph Unveiled

The telegraph was demonstrated for the first time on January 6, 1838. Samuel Morse sent a code of dots and dashes, later known as Morse Code, over a distance of 10 miles. The telegraph system proved its value in 1844 after a line was built between Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD, with a $30,000 grant from Congress.
