S.S. Normandie
The S.S. Normandie was a $60-million-dollar luxury ocean liner. She was considered to be one of the stateliest ships to cross the Atlantic in 1935. When American went to war, the U.S. Navy took possession of the ship and rechristened it the U.S.S. Lafayette. She was to serve as a transport ship but a fire on February 9, 1942, destroyed the vessel beyond repair.
