Retrospectacle: Tailfins
It was during the time when cars were worshipped and driving was a popular leisure activity. The 1950s brought us cars that were longer, leaner and more aerodynamic. They also sported fins—BIG ones. In the '60s every automaker was in the race to see whose fins could be sharper, sleeker and more dramatic. After about a decade the fad died down but not before one more set of tailfins would add to the tailfin iconography: those of the Batmobile.
