Khrushchev's U.N. Outbursts

The infamous “shoe banging” incident happened during the U.N. General Assembly meeting in the fall of 1960. Nikita Khrushchev, Premier of the Soviet Union, arrived at the meeting in New York uninvited. Khrushchev was angry, his disdain for the U.S. on full display during the weeks of the meetings. There were outbursts, the premier pounding his fists on his desk and allegedly removing a shoe and doing the same with it.
