Electric Guitar Patented

The first patent for the electric guitar was awarded August 10, 1937. Since the 1800s, musicians had been asking for a louder instrument because acoustic guitars were often drowned out by by more voluminous devices. Inventor George Beauchamp, engineer Adolph Rickenbacker and Paul Barth developed an electromagnetic pickup device that amplified the guitar’s strings and vibrations. They created a guitar body and nicknamed it the "Frying Pan." The two creations together became known as “Rickenbackers”.
