Chrysler Odometer Fraud

For nearly 40 years Chrysler sold cars with tampered odometers. It was common practice for Chrysler execs to drive new cars with disconnected odometers since 1949. Those vehicles were later shipped to dealers for sale. GM and Ford had similar programs but stopped in 1973 when Congress passed a law making it illegal to tamper with odometers. However, Chrysler continued the practice until the U.S. Justice department brought up a 16-count indictment against them in 1987.
