Battle of Midway

It was a gross underestimation of American power. In 1942, Japanese forces planned a complex diversionary attack on the American fleet in the Pacific Ocean, specifically on the island of Midway. Yet the element of surprise that was hoped for by the Japanese was abruptly seized by the Americans. After days of brutal battles, on June 7, 1942, American forces emerged victorious.
