Baseball Hits the Airwaves

The first broadcast play-by-play baseball game was initially done as an experiment on August 5, 1921. KDKA in Pittsburgh set up recording equipment inside Forbes Field where the Pirates were playing the Philadelphia Phillies. The experiment turned into success as the medium helped elevate baseball into a national pastime and an integral part of the American experience.
