Baryshnikov Defects

With an eye toward creativity and freedom Mikhail Baryshnikov, in 1974, became the third Russian ballet star to defect. During the last performance while on tour in Toronto, Baryshnikov snuck out the back door of the O’Keefe Theater and hid at a country house north of Toronto. He debuted with the American Ballet Theatre a little more than month later on July 27.
