It took two years to get him but Al Capone was finally convicted in October 1931. The gangster’s reputation and lifestyle were legendary. The Feds could never nail him for his brazen gambling, prostitution and bootlegging rackets but President Hoover’s orders to get Public Enemy Number 1 on income tax evasion did the trick.
