Retrospectacle: Halloween Candy
On Halloween, during WWII, children had to refrain from trick-or-treating because of sugar rationing. But during the postwar baby boom, trick or treating reclaimed its place among Halloween traditions for millions of children in cities and newly built suburbs across America. It has only grown in popularity over the decades. Today, Americans spend more than two billion dollars on Halloween candy. That’s a lot of Tootsie Rolls!
